Former Maryland County senatorial candidate, Eric Giko, has donated LR$85,500 to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Pleebo District Sub-Committee.

The donation was officially made on Monday, April 21, at Mr. Giko’s local office in Pleebo City.

Representing Mr. Giko at the event was Alex Bah Davis, who served as chairman of his campaign team during the 2023 general elections.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Davis emphasized that the contribution reflects Mr. Giko’s unwavering commitment to youth and sports development in Maryland County. He noted that the donation will cover registration fees for all participating communities in the upcoming LFA Community League in the county.

“This is part of Hon. Giko’s ongoing commitment to supporting community leagues and easing the financial burden on local teams,” Davis stated.

Receiving the donation, Mr. Rinkiling Phillips, Chairperson of the LFA Pleebo District Sub-Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Giko. He described the contribution as timely and impactful, particularly as many teams had been struggling to meet registration requirements.

“Many communities were facing difficulties in registering their teams for this year’s zonal league. This support will go a long way in addressing that challenge,” Mr. Phillips said.

Also speaking at the event, George M. Brooks, Secretary General of the Maryland Sports and Atlantic Commission, praised Hon. Giko for his consistent contributions to local sports initiatives.

It can be recalled that Hon. Giko made similar donations in 2022, 2023, and 2024, marking 2025 as the fourth consecutive year of his support.

According to the LFA, Hon. Giko’s contributions have not gone unnoticed and are playing a vital role in strengthening youth participation in football across the district.

Community members and football enthusiasts have welcomed the gesture, describing it as a powerful example of leadership and calling on others to follow suit in promoting sports and youth development in Maryland County.

“If all of our leaders are doing this, football players will not go in the streets to beg for support.” A participant told reporters.
