Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Football Association (LFA), in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has launched a new CAF License D coaching program targeting female inmates at the Monrovia Central Prison.
The weeklong training, which began on Monday, April 21, 2025, is part of a broader rehabilitation effort designed to provide inmates with recognized coaching credentials. The initiative aims to improve their post-release job prospects and aid in their transition back into society.
Twenty-three incarcerated women, along with two prison staff and one administrator, are enrolled in the course. It is being led by CAF instructors Selam Kedebe, a senior coaching educator, and Robert Lartey.
The CAF D License represents the foundational stage of CAF’s coaching education structure, concentrating on community-level football. It introduces essential coaching practices, basic team leadership, and training principles for young players.
At the opening ceremony, LFA’s Third Vice President, Jodie M. Reid-Seton, hailed the launch as a transformative moment for prison rehabilitation through sport. “This course is not just about football—it’s about giving you the tools to rebuild, to believe again, and to prepare for what lies ahead after prison,” she stated.
