Africa-Press – Liberia. The Federation Of Liberian Youth (FLY) has announced April 28-30 as the official dates set for the holding of its general assembly and elections.
The pending elections according to the Secretary General of FLY James Koryor will be contested in various categories namely: President, National Vice President and International Vice President, regional coordinators as well as executive committee members among others.
However, he pointed out that in keeping with its December 2018 amended Constitution, there shall not be elections for the secretariat but rather a permanent secretariat respectively.
According to the amended version among other things, the secretariat shall compose professional and qualified young people who shall be vetted while the qualified ones shall run the secretariat for a period of four years to help ensure that they be independent, well experienced in the workings of the secretariat and federation void of politics and to as well run that key arm of the Federation in an independent and professional manner and form.
Making the pronouncement at a news conference, the Secretary General of FLY James Koryor said they have put in place all necessary measures to ensure that the process is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere void of disruption.
He encouraged all members and would be members of the Federation to take advantage of the process for the betterment of the youthful population.
“We believe in good tenets of democracy and will uphold said at all times in a peaceful, transparent and fair manner and form”, Mr. Koryor assured the young people of Liberia.
Releasing the calendar of events leading to the hosting of the elections , He named January 10- February 15, 2022 for the regularization of membership including the recruitment of new members while on January 10-22, there shall be call for application for new members of the secretariat.
On January 31, 2022, release of general elections guidelines including publication while on February 18, 2022,shall be the publication of general membership rooster.
Additionally, he disclosed February 21-28 as the nationwide County election while on March 7, 2022 will be the release of the General assembly guidelines and Calendar of events respectively.
The FLY head of secretariat while encouraging new youth related organizations across the Country to take advantage of the process , he was also quick to inform them that they will form a part of the General assembly but will not participate in the elections process.
He at the same time use the occasion to urge all members and organizations of FLY to regularize their respective status to ensure a smooth and peaceful process.
Mr. Koryor also commended partners of the Federation to include the Ministry of Youth and Sports, UNAIDS among others for their level of support and collaboration over the years.
Currently preliminary processes leading to the holding of the General Assembly and elections are said to be ongoing .
