Africa-Press – Liberia. Former Bong County Superintendent Selena Posen Mappy is recommending to President George Manneh Weah the dismissal of Madam Esther Walker, the current county Superintendent of Bong.
Mappy’s recommendation stemmed from a recent statement made by Superintendent Walker that Ph.D. holders are “very stupid,” an assertion that has been greeted by huge condemnations from members of the public.
About a month ago, Superintendent Walker described Ph.D. holders as “very stupid,” blaming them for the depreciation of the state of the Country. Mappy said it was frustrating to hear Madam Walker insulting educated people when she is not even a competent high school graduate.
She said the statement made by Superintendent Walker has the audacity to discourage young people who are desirous of pursuing education in and out of Liberia.
“The Superintendent in her right mind knows that she is in error. Not because she is unschooled so she must have the audacity to rain insults at people who struggle to go to school,” said Madam Mappy. She argued that the statement undermines the education sector of the Country.
The former Bong County Superintendent explained that Madam Walker has failed the County as a superintendent, noting that maintaining her in such a position has the propensity to undermine the development of the County.
She explained that since her appointment in 2018 by President Weah, Madam Walker continues to undermine the progress of the ruling establishment in the County.
The Bong County Superintendent has however received an ultimatum from Dr. Jackson Taikerweyah to retract her statement while threatening an unspecified action against her if she fails to do so.
After making the statement against Ph.D. holders on a newly established radio station in Gbarnga, educators including local citizens of the county called on the Bong County Superintendent to apologize. But she has since refused to do so.
It is yet unclear whether the Bong County School Board will take action against the superintendent as the one-week grace period given her has since expired.
