Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Football Association (LFA) is facing a fresh wave of criticism as Mohammed Bamba, former president of second division outfit Cece United Football Academy, leveled a series of blistering accusations against the Liberia Football Association President, Mustapha Raji.
In a sweeping critique, Bamba alleged that behind the LFA’s “cosmetic achievements,” including FIFA-funded mini-stadiums and the new headquarters, lies a leadership style defined by patronage and the silencing of dissent.
“Beyond the FIFA-funded mini-stadiums and the questionable $1.5 million LFA headquarters,” Bamba wrote, “there lies a growing [instability] enabled over the years by sycophancy.”
Financial Discrepancies
A primary point of contention remains the LFA headquarters. While Raji officially declared the project cost at $1.5 million, former LFA Secretary General Isaac Montgomery has publicly disputed this, alleging the true cost exceeded $1.8 million.
From Reform to Stagnation
Elected in 2018 as a reformist, Raji’s tenure was initially viewed as a turning point for transparency. However, Bamba argues that those hopes have faded, accusing the 12-member Executive Committee of acting as a “cheering squad” rather than a governing body.
“The hope held by stakeholders turned into a fiasco once Raji officially took the mantle of power,” Bamba asserted, citing “bogus charges” used to sideline critics.
Infrastructure Concerns
Between 2018 and 2026, Liberia received over $11.3 million via the FIFA Forward Programme.
Bamba contends that the physical results, such as the malfunctioning LED scoreboard at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) and poor sanitary conditions at the SKD practice pitch, do not reflect the scale of international investment.
National Team Performance
Despite significant funding, the national team, Lone Star, has failed to qualify for major continental tournaments during Raji’s leadership.
Bamba questioned the lack of a technical roadmap, stating that any existing plan “lives only on Raji’s farm and not at the LFA headquarters.”
Bamba concluded with a warning of a “day of reckoning” for the current administration, citing a total lack of player welfare and marketing strategies for the domestic league.
FrontPageAfrica reached out to President Mustapha Raji for comment on the allegations; however, he had not responded as of press time.
