Africa-Press – Liberia. Former Ganta City Mayor Amos N.G. Suah has joined the ruling Unity Party.
Suah, who previously served under the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) during the George Weah presidency, said his decision was influenced by what he described as the government’s clear commitment to national development and recent judicial appointments.
“I will no longer continue to stand in opposition,” Suah told FrontPage Africa in an exclusive interview. “The government’s commitment to development and the appointment of my close friend as Chief Justice have inspired me to contribute positively to our nation’s progress.”
Suah was referring to the nomination of Judge Yarmie Quiqui Gbeisay as Liberia’s next Chief Justice — an appointment he hailed as a pivotal move that motivated him to align with the Boakai-led administration.
During his time as mayor of Ganta, Suah oversaw several infrastructure and public service projects. He was later replaced by Samuel Saye Hardt following the transition of power after the 2023 elections.
Though out of public office, Suah has remained a visible figure in Nimba County’s political and civic circles. His recent declaration for the Unity Party is expected to strengthen the party’s foothold in the county — a key battleground in national politics.
Suah’s switch is being interpreted by political analysts as a strategic endorsement of the Boakai-Koung administration’s early initiatives. His defection could also influence other former officials or CDC supporters to reconsider their political alignment.
As he takes on his new political role, Suah said he hopes to use his experience in local governance to support the Unity Party’s development goals and work with government stakeholders to advance progress in Nimba and beyond.
