Former Maryland Senator Ballout Urges Boakai-Koung Administration to Enforce Supreme Court Ruling

Africa-Press – Liberia. Ballout commended the Supreme Court for what he described as a “clear and unambiguous” interpretation of the law.

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the claim of a Majority Bloc within the Liberian Legislature, former Senator of Maryland County and staunch support off Unity Party, John Ballout called on the Boakai-Koung administration to accept the ruling and must move swiftly to implement the Court’s decision.”

The ruling, which upheld a Bill of Information filed by the Minority Bloc led by House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, struck down attempts by the so-called Majority Bloc to assert legislative dominance.

Ballout commended the Supreme Court for what he described as a “clear and unambiguous” interpretation of the law.

“I congratulate the Supreme Court for upholding the Constitution,” Ballout said. “Now it is expected that the Senate, the self-proclaimed Majority Bloc, and the Minister of Justice will publicly accept the ruling. The Executive must move swiftly to implement the Court’s decision.”

Ballout also called for transparency and oversight, recommending that a forensic audit of the Legislaturebe conducted once the ruling is fully enforced.

The Supreme Court’s ruling is seen by many political observers as a pivotal moment in Liberia’s legislative history, marking a return to constitutional clarity amid a season of political uncertainty. With the ruling party experiencing a “win one, lose one” scenario in recent elections, national focus now shifts to governance and the delivery of services.

Commenting further, former Senate Pro Tempore Jallah stated that Liberia is not the time for retribution, but reflection, stressing that the country must move forward together.”

However, urged political leaders and institutions to prioritize national progress over partisan wrangling.

.“The outcome, though disappointing to some, is a reaffirmation of our constitutional order,” Jallah said in a statement. “The path forward must now be about healing, governance, and delivering for the Liberian people—not further court battles or political maneuvering.”

Jallah noted that the political environment, while dynamic, requires a shift in focus. He encouraged lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to embrace the Supreme Court’s ruling as a moment for unity.

“It’s time for national cohesion, economic focus, and institutional strengthening,” he said. “Let Liberia move on—void of distraction, and full of purpose,” he said
