Africa-PressLiberia. A web radio Voice of Diaspora (VOD) establish by a group of former employees of the Renaissance Communications Incorporated currently based in the US has been launched.

According to a dispatch from Maryland USA, the Voice of Diaspora (VOD) will serve the information need of both the Diaspora and home base audience, by focusing on leading stories emanating from Liberia as well as United States, produce documentaries on events, education and entertainment.

The establishment of the online news organ is being birthed by former Liberian journalists who worked for the Renaissance Communication, Truth FM in an effort create an alternative link between Liberians home and abroad in propagating their messages through the web.

Serving as Guest Speaker at the launch of the website, and a reunion program of the former employees of RCI in the Diaspora, Mr. Laraamand Nyonton a humanitarian and a Representative Aspirant of district #12 in Montserrado County underscored the importance of radio as a tool for advancing national development.

He urged the management of VOD Radio to take advantage of the existing technologies to broaden the scope of its network in Liberia and beyond, and however cautioned that truthful and unbias reporting are essential to effective journalism.

Speaking further, Mr Nyonton explained that unlike Newspaper and Television, the power of the radio is greatly felt because of its wider coverage and accessibility.

Commenting on the recent World Bank report which shows a grooming picture of affairs on internet accessibility, Mr Nyonton said, out of 5.2 million people in Liberia only 400 thousand people have access to internet facilities. This, he believe must be reversed.

He also advised the management of VOD Radio to join efforts towards the expansion of its network through partnership with Community Radio Stations in rural Liberia.

The management of VOD Radio express gratitude to Mr Nyonton for honoring their invitation and vowed to make the VOD Radio a formidable force in the Radio world.
