Founder Seeks Assistance for Bassa Girls FC Season Issues

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Manager of Bassa Girls FC, a lower women’s division team in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) national league George Ben has attributed the team’s inability to complete the 2024/2025 season to a lack of financial support.

Ben, founder and manager of the Grand Bassa-based club, said the team was forced to forfeit several away matches due to financial challenges, which could result in their relegation from the league.

“Since founding the team during the 2020/2021 season, I have personally covered all expenses,” Ben said. “I’ve been calling on citizens of Grand Bassa County and potential sponsors to support the team, but no one has responded.”

Ben stated that his personal resources have funded transportation, equipment, and even educational support for players.

Despite repeated appeals for assistance or sponsorship, the club has received no financial backing, making it difficult to maintain operations.

“We missed a number of away games because we couldn’t afford transportation and other logistics,” he added. “That’s why we couldn’t finish the league and now risk relegation.”

Ben extended an apology to the people of Buchanan City, residents of Grand Bassa County, and fans of the team for what he described as a disappointing season.

He acknowledged their support during match days and urged them to help advocate for sponsorship, particularly among Grand Bassa citizens living in the diaspora.

“I want to make it clear that our failure wasn’t due to poor performance by the players,” Ben emphasized. “It was entirely because of the lack of funding. I ask all our supporters to continue spreading the word so we can get the help we need.”

Bassa Girls FC was hoping to finish in the top three of the lower female division in order to qualify for promotion to the LFA upper league, but fell short due to their financial struggles.
