Africa-Press – Liberia. The 2006 Champions of the National County Sports Meet Gbarpolu County are now through to the Semi Finals of the 2021/2022 National County Sports Meet. Gbarpolu did so after narrowly defeating unlucky Rivercess County two goals to one.
The Diamond boys got the game opener from their skipper unexpected left footed top in as the sizable fans of Gbarpolu were seen celebrating their crucial advantage lead.
Organized and composed Rivercess side mounted pressure to get the equalizer but it did not materialize as first half ended one goal to zero in favor of the Gbarpolu boys.
The sea side boys of Rivercess in the second half looked more energized and motivated and eventually got the match level from the penalty spot after an elementary mistake from the Gbarpolu defense which was cleverly converted by player Bill Kwoi who send the Gbarpolu goalkeeper Andrew Dumah into different direction.
The Both teams after a level score line made some tactical substitutions to balance the game with the two teams seen playing more careful and defensive and at the same time attacking football as the final ninety minutes ended one at piece.
Reserve energy and more Petrol was needed by the both teams to ensure that they complete the extra thirty minutes as the first fifteen ended goalless .
Back from the break , the two sides maintained and sustained pressure from both ends but the last minute to time free header from Gbarpolu substitute Sekon Kamara into the button right corner was enough to seal the win for the Gold boys as the fans for Rivercess were heart broken for such a last minute to time and late winner.
What a very competitive second and final quarter finals match of the 2021/2022 National County Sports Meet which saw Gbarpolu over-powering her opponent , Rivercess County.
Gbarpolu is now the only representative from Western Liberia in the competition and will face Margibi County in the semi finals stage of the competition while the Grand Finals before finals will see Nimba versus Grand Bassa.
In kickball Lofa who defeated Nimba 2 home runs to nothing will battle youthful Maryland County side while Rivercess will face Grand Gedeh in the semi final all at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City on January 12, 2021.
