Africa-Press – Liberia. A group under the banner concerned citizens of Grand Gedeh County, a conglomeration of Giah Development Organization in both the Americas and Liberia and others, have called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr, to urgently intervene in the unauthorized occupation of Burkinabe nationals in Grand Gedeh County, Liberia.
The group through its president S. Taye’laybah Gblu Kwitee Sr, addressing a press conference on Thursday, has expressed concern about an alleged unlawful settlement of individuals from Burkina Faso in Grand Gedeh, terming them as troubling circumstances.
He said the presence of these individuals, particularly elderly and young adult males unaccompanied by families, poses a threat to the sustainability and cohesion of their county.
According to him, they are whistleblowers representing various organizations including the Giah Development Organizations in the Americas, Liberia Forest and Wildlife Protection, Movement of Opinion Leaders of Liberia, and other esteemed organizations, that have observed the vulnerabilities of unauthorized entries of Burkinabe, especially during the rainy season, and it is imperative to take swift and decisive measures to enhance security measures and uphold our national sovereignty.
He further said that there are reports of individuals within Grand Gedeh aiding, sheltering, and facilitating the illegal acquisition of customary land by these unauthorized occupants, which further exacerbate the situation.
Therefore, the group is now calling for the urgent intervention of President Boakai in removing these alleged unauthorized occupants from Grand Gedeh County and enforcing immigration laws rigorously to prevent further illicit entries.
“The preservation of our ancestral lands and the safety of our citizens are paramount, and we call upon the government to take necessary actions to address this pressing issue, Kwitee Sr added.
