Africa-Press – Liberia. The National Integrity Forum (NIF), has termed as laudable, the anti-corruption Innovation Initiative project designed by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) and other integrity entities to strengthen Liberia’s governance system in the fight against wastes and abuse of public resources.
Speaking at the launch of the project on Tuesday, the NIF Acting Chairperson, Attorney J. Roseline Nagbe-Kowo said the theme of the project- “Technology and innovation at the frontline and boosting public confidence in the fight against corruption” requires more actions and less talk regarding its implementation.
Attorney Nagbe-Kowo said commitment among all actors in the public and private sectors plays a key role to achieve the overall objective of the anti-corruption innovation project which has been launched in Liberia.
She mentioned that constructive engagement among all actors who are fighting corruption could meaningfully consolidate those provisions enshrined in the innovation project for execution to realize national compliance in collectively battling corruption.
She noted that the innovation project is the fundamental roadmap to ensure that all anti-corruption actors should lead by example to send a positive signal to the public in Liberia and outside about the fight against corruption and other malpractices.
Attorney Kowo, who is also the Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC) outlined the project could help in the full implementation of Liberia’s anti-corruption Act and reawaken national sprit of compliance among all Liberians at home and abroad.
Meanwhile, the anti-corruption innovative project is designed by the LACC, Accountability Lab and Center for Transparency and Accountability (CENTAL). Double Murder: Father Kills Wife Before Being Beaten to Death by Step Son in Saclepea
A father killed his wife in their bedroom and was later beaten to death by his step son on Saturday, October 23 in the Christian Community in Saclepea, Nimba County, police have confirmed.
Alphonso Bartuah, 25, killed his 73-year-old father, Samuel Bartuah after he noticed that his dad had killed his mother, Martha Bartuah, 60, police said.
Samuel, according to police, had attempted committing suicide after the incident when his son arrived on the scene, police added. Police said Alphonso is currently undergoing investigation.
When police descended on the home on Saturday to conduct a “well-being check,” they found the bodies of Samuel and his wife in a pool of blood, which showed signs of violence before the deaths, police in Saclepea said.
Police described the incident as a double murder. Neighbours told FrontPageAfrica reporter the event had disturbed them, but said they had seen signs of domestic abuse coming from the household.
One neighbour who lives close to the home, said police had been to the home recently to respond to a domestic violence call. In that incident, a woman ran out of the home, calling for help. She was ostensibly Samuel children’s mother.
“I was outside and I heard a woman screaming for help,” the neighbor recalled. “She was screaming, ‘My children, my children.’ I think she was worried for them.”
The neighbor remembered how the victim’s husband tried to downplay the incident to the neighbours. “He was saying things like, ‘Oh, well, she’s exaggerating,’ and that kind of things, the neighbor said. “She had a busted lip and bruises on her cheek. There were clear signs of domestic abuse.” Police in Saclepea said they could not confirm any prior visits to the residence, describing that information as confidential.
The deaths have shaken neighbours of the Christian Community in Saclepea. “We all feel it was a tragedy that could have been avoided. We feel powerless and sad, incredibly sad, I think,” one neighbour said. “I just feel like there should be more done to protect the victims of abuse and their children.”
