Monrovia, October 3, 2025: The Liberian government has clarified that Bryant McGill, who served as the Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports has not been taken into custody because the evidence against him is not as clear cut as in the case of Sando S. Kromah, a procurement contractor with the Ministry of Agriculture, who was recently charged with statutory rape and jailed at Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl.

Addressing the issue on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Monrovia, MICAT Deputy Press Minister Danial Sanoe stressed that in some cases, a suspect can be immediately linked to the crime scene, making evidence available right away. In other cases, such a link is not immediate, and investigations require more time.

He argues that in Kromah’s case, the suspect was reportedly found with the victim, whereas in McGill’s case, the allegation surfaced after the fact, and McGill has denied being present at the stated time.

“The key point I’m trying to make is that in both cases, the facts and circumstances are not the same,” he said, reading from a police statement. “No special treatment is given to anyone.”

He urged all civil society organizations and citizens not to question the government’s decision and to avoid public perceptions of selective justice, as this would undermine efforts to ensure due process.

In September 2025, Bryant McGill, the Deputy Minister for Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, the daughter of the Ministry’s deputy chief of security.

Following these serious allegations, the Liberia National Police confirmed that the minor was indeed assaulted within the Ministry’s premises, and the investigation is ongoing.

However, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. suspended McGill. Still, despite his suspension, he continues to enjoy his freedom, violating section seven of the 2005 Act that outlines how a 1st degree rape suspect should be treated.

In contrast, Sando S. Kromah, a procurement contractor with the Ministry of Agriculture, was arrested, charged with statutory rape, and jailed on October 1, 2025, at Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly assaulting another 14-year-old girl.

But the government says, the public should not question their decision, noting that the facts and circumstances in the two cases are not the same. Therefore, they are to review the evidence in McGill’s case and are committed to ensuring due process.
