Africa-Press – Liberia. Prince Teah converted a penalty in the 88th minute in a crucial Group C match of the National County Sports Meet to earn host Grand Gedeh County a1-0 win over Sinoe County.
Sinoe had few opportunities in the match but was completely outplayed by the Zulu Whisky boys for most part of the match. The Zulu Whisky boys were awarded a spot kick after the referee sounded for a handball in the box to the disbelief of the boys and fans from Greenville in the 86 minutes.
Despite protest from the visitors’ players central referee David Kollie,Teah was allowed to take a penalty and the Paynesville FC midfielder found the corner of the net to score Grand Gedeh first and only goal of the current tournament to secure them all three points.
Sinoe Coach Bra Dixon said it was unfortunate for the referee to award such a penalty which he believed was not fair. According to the Sinoe County coach, despite the defeat his team will still qualify to the quarterfinal.
He assures the people of Sinoe that he will beat Maryland County and secure qualification. Earlier, Grand Gedeh had three attempts towards goal but all were far from the target.
Edwin Siah boys took control of the centre of the park and mounted pressure on Dixon men to get the opening but could not due to the excellent defending of Sinoe back four.
James Toure of Sinoe saw his ball blocked after a decent pass from teammate Emmanuel Call deep in the half of the host in the 33rd minute. Roland Jellue, the grand Gedeh attacker was denied by Sinoe keeper Julian William who made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute to end the half goalless.
The home side who lost their opening match to Maryland County 1-0 increased their pressure in the second half. Jellue was again denied by William’s left foot from close range in the 79th minute.
Few minutes later the home said was rewarded for their pressure with a late penalty in the 81 that Prelince Teah dispatched in the 88 minutes of the match to send the Albert T White Stadium in Zwedru City Grand Gedeh County into jubilation.
With time running out Sinoe fought for an equaliser but time was not in their favour as the home team got the final smile of the afternoon. The win has given the zulu whisky boys three points from two games and will be hoping Maryland can beat or draw with Sinoe County on Saturday December 18,2021 to guarantee their qualifications to the last eight.
For Sinoe they will be hoping to secure a win of two or more goals without conceding. In the kickball version Grand Gedeh secured a hard fought but deserving 3-2 home run victory over Sinoe County.
Meanwhile Margibi has submitted a protest against Montserrado County for fielding LISCR FC striker, Mark Karley, who according to them, featured for the national team of Liberia Below is National County Sports Meet Results from match day two
