Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Maritime Authority (LIMA) has emerged victorious in a protest filed against the Ministry of Defense.
The information was disclosed to the media on Monday, June 19, 2023, by the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the tournament.
LIMA’s successful protest means that the “Marine Strikers” will be able to continue their participation in this year’s Intra-Governmental League (IGL), securing a spot in the semi-finals of the competition.
It may be recalled that the Ministry of Defense had initially qualified for the semi-finals. However, their qualification was nullified after LIMA filed a protest.
The Liberia Maritime Authority (LIMA) lodged a protest against the Ministry of Defense (MOD) for fielding an ineligible player.
MOD had included Jerome Gbamy, who wore jersey number 22, in their 2-1 quarter-final match against LIMA.
The “Marine Strikers” firmly believed that Gbamy did not meet the required three-year inactive period to be eligible for participation in the tournament.
Upon review of the protest, the ruling favored LIMA, resulting in a change in the game’s outcome in favor of Maritimes.
