Africa-Press – Liberia. The Jewel Starfish Foundation, in collaboration with STEMpower Inc, has launched a Mini STEM Center at the Bong County Technical College.Speaking during the launching ceremony, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, Liberia’s Vice President, said the project is meant to contribute towards the national program for strengthening mathematics and science education in Liberia.

The Liberian Vice President also encouraged the administration of the Bong County Technical College to properly maintain the facility and use it for the purpose intended.

The center brings to two, the number of STEM Hubs in Liberia. Recently, high-tech equipment were being installed at the first STEM hub based at the Young Women Christian Association YWCA in Congo Town, Monrovia.

These centers, according to Madam Taylor will strengthen science instruction with hands-on enrichment programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Disciplines for University & pre-university youths in Liberia.

Madam Taylor also extolled STEM-Power Inc. for the partnership adding that the project compliments the PAPD agenda of President George M. Weah.

STEMpower Inc. is an international not-for-profit, non-governmental organization founded on the principle that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education Innovation Acceleration, is crucial to Africa’s long-term development.

For their parts, the administration and some students of BCTC thanked the Liberian leader for the milestone investment; citing that the center will further boost the IT department of the College.

Named and Styled “Jewel Howard Taylor STEM Hub”, the project was launched in the presence of dozens of education stakeholders and Students in the County.
