Africa-Press – Liberia. The Chairman of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) and standard-bearer of the Unity Party, Joseph N. Boakai, says he will reach out to his counterpart, Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress in an effort to ensure that the internal wrangling within the CPP is resolved.
In an VOA interview with James Butty, Mr. Boakai said he intends to bring the CPP leadership together for a recommitment to the ideals of the Collaboration.
He said there are already friendly negotiations ongoing in an attempt to resolve the differences within the political marriage. “Salving the CPP or salving the situation in there is what we intend to do and that’s what we’re there for,” he said.
“There is the collaboration and I don’t think there is a need for us to collaborate and have all of the problems we are having. We do have some problems; you know when you collaborate… We have decided that we resolve our differences through some friendly negotiations,” he said.
Besides Benoni Urey alleging that the CPP’s Framework Document was tampered with under the watch of the Cummings which caused a stir within the CPP, Mr. Cummings has also lamented the constant abuse of the CPP Framework Document.
It can be recalled that the barely few hours to the turning over ceremony of the mantle of authority of the CPP to Mr. Boakai, Cummings’ ANC vowed to boycott the program.
ANC’s National Chairman and Gbarpolu County Senator Daniel Naatehn said “Contrary to the practices of the CPP, we can no longer continue to tolerate a systematic pattern of conduct that willfully violate the established practices in the CPP”. The turning over was held on October 15, 2021.
The ANC, in a release issued Thursday evening October 14, 2021, announced that they will not attend the turning over ceremony of CPP in which Sen. Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence will officially turn over the CPP’s Chairmanship to Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Boakai.
The ANC said the decision to boycott the pending program was based on the exclusion of the party from planning and activities leading to the turning over ceremony.
The ANC statement also started that the turning over of the CPP chairmanship was characterized by wrongful processes, illegal profiteering and other practices that are against the values of the CPP.
“The ANC believes the pending ceremony is characterized by wrongful processes, illegal profiteering and sectarian politicization, all practices that alien to the cherished values of the CPP,” stated at the time.
