Kouh Promise Watanga FC US$5,000 For Each CAF Champions League Win

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Chief Executive Officer of FC Kallon Liberia, Cassell Anthony Kouh, has promised Watanga FC a US$5,000 reward for each win in the upcoming Confederation of African Football Champions League matches.

According to Kouh, who is a former Vice President for Operations of the LFA, this gesture is his way of uplifting the club during their 2024/2025 CAF Champions League journey. Mr. Kouh made the promise on Saturday, May 11, during a ceremony organized by the club to honor its players for winning the 2023/24 LFA national league.

According to the FC Kallon-Liberia Chief Executive Officer, motivation plays a major role in the success of every club.

“Motivation plays a major role, so I will begin the process by giving $5,000 USD for each win during the upcoming CAF Champions League,” he said in a brief remark.

Also at the event, he pledged to present $5,000 USD to the club in the coming days for their success in the just-ended National league.

“Despite my promise of $5,000 for each win in the inter-club competition, I am pledging an additional $5,000 that you guys can collect in the coming days,” he added.

The Liberian champions booked their spot in the preliminary round of this year’s CAF Champions League after winning the 2023/2024 national league for the second time in three seasons. The club will be making their third appearance in CAF competitions after the draw held in June of this year.

In 2022, the Soldier Boys represented Liberia in the CAF Champions League but failed to go beyond the first round against Nigerian champions River United FC. They were thrashed 3-0 in the first leg away from home but gave a good account of themselves in the second leg at home, beating the Nigerian side 1-0. At the end of the tie, two players of the Liberian side, Albert Korvah and Mark Gibson, were transferred to River United as a result of their excellent display during both legs.

However, in 2023, Watanga FC became the fourth Liberian club to be eliminated with high goal aggregate losses in CAF. This happened after the club suffered a 7-2 aggregate loss in the CAF Confederation Cup against Stade Malian de Bamako of Mali. The Liberian club was thrashed 3-1 in the first leg played at the empty-seated Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex (SKD), while they were defeated 4-1 in the return leg just a few days later.
