In a significant move to address rising global demands for traceability and compliance, the Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) is establishing a national traceability system for the country’s cocoa and coffee sectors. This initiative is a proactive step to prevent potential rejection of Liberian commodities under new international regulations, particularly the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
DaVinci Intel is among many firms interested in finding a solution to Liberia’s cash crop traceability problem. It has designed a platform known as POLIPUSAgritracce 360 a robust digital solution that will track cocoa and coffee from their origins in various Liberian regions.
The system will ensure that every farm is recorded and every crop is accounted for, providing comprehensive data to meet strict international standards.
A team from Da Vinci Intel on Wednesday held meeting with our senior management team to share an idea about how the platform looks like.
According to LACRA’s Acting Director General, Dan Saryee, this innovation from Da Vinci looks good stating this could be the “best solution” for Liberia to address traceability challenges and secure its position in the global market. The new system if activated will help farmers mitigate risks associated with non-compliance and ensure the long-term viability of Liberia’s agricultural exports.
Meanwhile, LACRA hosted a one-day stakeholder engagement with exporters to dialogue on the EUDR compliance and other key regulations on the EUDR. Key discussions were held on finding strategies to meeting these critical new EUDR requirements.
During the meeting, Acting DG Saryee outlined measures his administration is taking to ease the burden on farmers and other stakeholders. Few of the measures outlined include digitalization the regulatory system and activating mobile money payment platform to ease constraints on farmers exporters in rural Liberia.
At the end of the engagement session, a committee comprising heads of major exporting firms was setup to further look at the idea to setup a national traceability platform for Liberia.
This national traceability system marks a major milestone for Liberia’s agricultural sector, demonstrating the country’s commitment to sustainable and responsible farming practices while safeguarding the livelihoods of its farmers.
