Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) is expected to lead the Christian community to the Executive Mansion today, Thursday, February 10, 2022, to offer prayers to God for His mercy and blessings on the country as it celebrates 200 years of existence.
The Executive Mansion is the official home of the Liberian Presidency. President George Manneh Weah is expected to move to the Mansion immediately after the bicentennial celebration, 16 years after it was gutted by fire.
Liberia declared independence on July 26, 1847, twenty-seven years after it was founded by freed slaves from America in 1822.
Council of Churches President Bishop Kortoe Brown said the continued existence of Liberia as a nation despite calamities and wars, manifests God’s love for the country.
Bishop Brown indicated that the only response God expects from his people for keeping the nation safe during the period under review is to thank Him for the wonderful achievements.
He disclosed that hundreds of Christians representing various churches and denominations across the country have been mobilized through relevant committees set up by the Council to participate in today’s prayer sessions.
He explained that during the thanksgiving service at the Executive Mansion, worshippers will kneel before God, and offer prayers, first for the success of the bicentennial celebration and then general thanksgiving for the founding of the country.
The LCC President also reminded Liberians about the importance of the bicentennial and its impact on national history.
He urged Liberians to put the bicentennial celebration above all else, as it tries to trace the country’s roots irrespective of tribal political, social and individual differences.
