Africa-Press – Liberia. The training was aimed at strengthening their capacity to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has concluded a week-long in-service training for 28 officers assigned to its Maryland County detachment.

The training was aimed at strengthening their capacity to combat drug-related crimes in the region.

The training, which took place from May 25 to May 30, 2025, was held at the LDEA headquarters in Harper City. It was organized in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through its E-Learning Global Platform.

Topics covered during the training included investigative interviewing, basic intelligence analysis, seaport interdiction, risk management, and an introductory overview of marijuana and smoking-related offenses.

Special Agent Fred G. Souh, who led the training sessions, said the initiative marks a significant step in enhancing professionalism within the agency. He acknowledged the contribution of international partners and emphasized the relevance of continuous learning in drug enforcement.

“With this training, we are hopeful that our officers will enhance their investigative capabilities and uphold professionalism in their duties,” Agent Souh said during the closing ceremony.

The program was made possible through the efforts of Special Agent Moses B. Birr, Commander of the LDEA in Maryland County. According to the training team, Commander Birr’s consistent advocacy for officer development played a key role in securing the initiative.

“This initiative aligns with the LDEA’s broader mission to build a capable and professional workforce equipped to tackle the growing challenges of drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia,” the training team stated.
