Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Football Association, in partnership with Lonestar Cell MTN, officially launched the “Momo Community League,” a U-17 grassroots community league in Montserrado County.
The community-based grassroots football competition will feature 16 communities in Montserrado County. The 16 teams will be split into four zones and compete in a round-robin format.
For the next three years, the competition will be held annually, providing community fans with the chance to see some of the most exciting talents in the communities.
The champions of the grassroots league will receive a L$300,000 cash prize, followed by L$200,000 for runners-up and L$100,000 for the third place finishers
Sekou W. Konneh, Acting President of the LFA, expressed excitement about the partnership and anticipates a more competitive competition that will give several young players the opportunity to showcase their talents.
Chief Marketing Officer of Lonestar Cell MTN, Rohit Narayan, described the launch of the grassroots league as a great milestone “for us as a brand and for Liberia.”
“We are extremely excited to join the leadership of the Liberia Football Association to provide recognition for young Liberians through the platform of sports,” Mr. Narayan said. “As a brand, Lonestar Cell MTN believes in the development of young people and will continue to provide various platforms aimed at fostering the growth of the youthful population.”
Each of the 16 participating teams received L$72,000, five footballs, a set of jerseys, and t–shirts from Lonestar Cell MTN at the close of the launching ceremony on Wednesday as part of preparation for the competition that is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, 11 May at Banersville Estate Field.
