Africa-Press – Liberia. The standard bearer of the opposition All Liberia Coalition Party (ALCOP), Lusinee F. Kamara, has named former Grand Cape Mount County senatorial candidate, Matthew V. Z. Darblo, as his running mate.
Kamara, a former Minister of Finance, said he was overwhelmed to find someone in Cape Mount, a county ALCOP has tremendously worked in for years, to serve as his running-mate in the October 10 elections.
He believes that Darblo is best suited to join him in redeeming Liberia and its people. He lauded partisans and sympathizers of ALCOP for all the support and for standing with him in getting a running-mate.
“I’m glad to have found some who will help me to redeem Liberia,” Kamara said when he unveiled Darblo in Tieni, Grand Cape Mount County, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at a well-attended program. The event was graced by scores of youth, elders, women, and traditional leaders of Lofa, Grand Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu counties.
The ALCOP Standard Bearer is a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, former Minister of Commerce, Finance, and now a senior businessman and politician. He served as Finance Minister during the National Transitional Government of Liberia, which was Chaired by the late Charles Guyde Bryant.
Kamara became the political leader of ALCOP in 2020 after its founding father and life-lng political leader, Prof. Alhaji G. V. Kromah, became incapacitated and could no longer steer the affairs of the party.
“Three years ago, the elders and youth of ALCOP asked me to consider contesting for the nation’s highest seat, the President, so that everyone can join efforts to redeem Liberia,” he said. “And this is why we asked the people of Grand Cape Mount County to assist us in finding the best and most suitable people to complete our ticket, and today we have one of your sons, and a hard working brother. We are happy and proud of this choice, and we pray that Allah be happy with him and guide our steps, Mr. Darblo,” Kamara indicated.
According to Kamara, the people of Cape Mount remain the pillar, and it is their hard work that will lead to the victory of the ALCOP in the October polls. “Without your support, we cannot get the victory we need come October.”
Darblo lauded Kamara and expressed confidence in him, saying that he is prepared to work with Mr. Kamara to redeem Liberia.
“I graciously and humbly accept to be your running mate in the pending October 10 election. This is one of the landmark decisions ever reached in my life and Grand Cape Mount County,” Mr. Darblo said.
He promised to do everything within his capacity to uphold the trust and confidence reposed in him and the people of Cape Mount. “I was deeply honored when I received a call to serve as running mate to honor Lusine Kamara, a decision endorsed by the executive committee of the party,” he said.
Darblo described Kamara as the man for the Liberian presidency, and if elected, he would put Liberia on the right trajectory.
He termed October 10 as a redemption day for Liberia, and therefore called on Liberians to support the election of the ALCOP team.
“The Liberian people deserve better in the midst of the plenty of resources we have in this country. Go to Kinjor and see what’s coming from there. You will not allow it to go. Because of what is in Liberia, we cannot continue to wallow in it. No employment, no facilities, and when they fool us with small things, we give praise to them,” he said.
He called on Liberians not to shy away from highlighting the ills in society as it’s the way of correcting the wrongs.
Darblo lauded the supporters, sympathizers and partisans for turning out to grace the unveiling ceremony and called on them to continue to support them in the October 10 election.
