Africa-Press – Liberia. Alexander Cummings has announced an 80 members campaign team as he sets his sights on the Liberian presidency comes October 10 polls.

Cummings, who has been a vocal critic of current President George Weah’s administration, has expressed his belief that Weah cannot win a second term in office.

The former Coca-Cola executive, who is the Presidential Candidate for the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), revealed that his campaign team will run an inclusive campaign that will focus on presenting a strong alternative for the Liberian people.

“I know the President and his CDC are talking about a first-round victory. That is nonsense! That will not happen because they have failed the Liberian people,” Cummings told a cheering crowd of supporters as he announced his campaign team.

“Nobody, no Liberian or our international partners should believe that nonsense that there will be a first-round victory for President Weah. In fact, the only person who stands the possibility of winning the first round is Alexander Cummings and Charlyne Brumskine,” he added.

Cummings’ announcement comes about two weeks after the National Elections Commission announced the opening of the campaign for the October 10 polls.

Weah and former Vice President Boakai — two of Cummings’ main rivals — are already ahead of him in terms of campaigning. The President has vigorously campaigned in Montserrado more than any other political institution thus far.

Weah boasts about securing his re-election on the first-round ballot instead of a runoff, but it may not come easily.

His opponents are focusing on issues such as the high cost of living, and the influx of drugs in the country, which has led many young people astray and without a promising future.

The newly-appointed campaign officials comprise a mix of seasoned political veterans, young professionals, and grassroots organizers. Cummings has emphasized that this eclectic team was carefully chosen to ensure a representation of voices from across the socio-economic spectrum and ethnic diversity of Liberia.

Among the notable appointees was Lewis Brown, former Liberia Permanent Representative to the UN who still retained his position as National Campaign Chairman. Dr. Toga G. McIntosh, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, is maintained as the most senior advisor to the campaign.

Browne, who is also a former Minister of Information, brings a wealth of experience in Liberian politics as he has served under former Presidents Charles Taylor, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and, for a few months, Weah. However, he still has work to do to get Cummings elected as the frontrunner for the polls, as Weah and former Vice President Boakai hold that position for now

Additionally, Cllr. Aloysius Toe was named as Deputy National Campaign Chairman for legal affairs; Isaac Vah Tukpah for Policy and George Gyude Wisner as Deputy for Mobilization and Chairman for Montserrado County.

According to Cummings, all of the Legislative candidates of Collaborating Political Parties are campaign advisors in each of their respective counties and districts.

Meanwhile, Cummings noted that the majority of Liberian voters will vote for him because they are yearning for better leadership that can change and improve their living conditions.
