Africa-Press – Liberia. Alexander B. Cummings, the Presidential candidate of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), has called on voters to kick the George Weah-led government “off the soccer pitch with a political red card for playing foul with Liberians.”

“On October 10, will you vote for Alexander B. Cummings and Cllr. Brumskine? George Weah has failed us, and we are going to kick him off the pitch and replace him with the fixers with a red card,” he added.

Cummings made the call on September 14, while speaking to thousands of citizens at the Nancy B. Doe Sports Pitch in Margibi County during an official presentation of an endorsement statement for his presidential bid in the October elections.

“I want to promise you that when you vote for Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine and me, we will change Liberia. We will change your life. And you want better schools, more jobs, better health care, and better roads? Then vote for us on October 10; that’s how we are going to change Liberia,” he told his supporters.

He indicated that George Weah is a footballer who knows that if a player intentionally plays a foul and causes serious injury, the person ultimately will get a red card.

Cummings also called on his many supporters from around the country to vote for him and Cllr. Brumskine for the presidency and vice presidency, respectively, and all those contesting on the ticket of the CPP.

He expressed gratitude for the rousing welcome and the huge turnout of citizens including partisans, supporters, sympathizers and well-wishers for the launch of the CPP campaign in Kakata, Margibi County.

He assured Liberians that upon his ascendancy as President, he will endeavor to fix the deplorable road conditions, revamp the country’s ailing economy, and improve the health and educational systems nationwide.

For her part, Charlyne M. Brumskine, vice standard bearer of the CPP, implored Liberians about the dire need for change and said the CPP is the best alternative to replace the inept ruling Coalition for Democratic Change of President George Weah.

“If you like yourself, young people should vote for you. There are three people in this election. You will vote for the three main political parties: the CPP (that is, me and Mr. Cummings), the current government, or the past government. Nobody with common sense wakes up in the morning and just stands in one place for the whole day. Nobody with common sense wakes up in the morning and goes behind,” she explained.

Brumskine continued, “Everybody, when you wake up and you can go in front, is that true? Liberia, October 10, I will not be with you, Mr. Cummings will not be with you on October 10; the President of Liberia will not be with you on October 10, and Ambassador Boakai will not be with you.”

Counsellor Brumskine made a passionate plea, especially to women and youths, who constituted the largest turnout, not to vote based on sympathy or popularity of candidates, but rather for Mr. Cummings, who she described as the best qualified and without blemish.

“When you go, vote to stop the drugs from coming into our country and killing our young people. When you go, make sure you vote for someone who will give you more jobs. The person will not say, We will make the government big and make the private sector small. Vote for somebody who loves young people and women.

“This man says all the big men in this country left them behind and went to bring one young woman because he wants to show that women too can lead. Women can lead.”

She urged them to vote for somebody who will build this country up, somebody who has never eaten government money that they take from your ma and pa. Vote for a man who will appreciate women in leadership and young people — that man who will fix the country.

The CPP vice standard bearer concluded, “You are voting for the man because you say you like him. You, say the papa na try oo that what will give you food to eat? That popularity and sympathy will send your children to school? That popularity and sympathy will keep jobs in the country? Your vote shows your interest.”

Meanwhile, citizens of Margibi County turned out in their thousands with great jubilation on Thursday, September 14, and reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty and support to the Presidential bid of Cummings.

The entrance of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata was a colorful scene of masked dancers, massive jubilation and talent display by youth and women groups as the huge crowd awaited the arrival of the CPP Standard Bearer and entourage.

Cummings, accompanied by his wife Teresa, the Vice Standard Bearer Counsellor Charlyne Brumskine, and CPP Legislative Aspirants, led the parade from the BWI campus to the Nancy B. Doe sports pitch where the official ceremony was held.

The CPP Campaign launch in Kakata, Margibi County was seemingly the largest campaign gathering outside the capital Monrovia and was attended by Montserrado County Representative Yekeh Kolubah and River Gee County Senator Jonathan Sogbie.
