Liberia: Dr. Clarence Moniba Gets Historic Endorsement

Africa-Press – Liberia. Dr. Clarence Moniba, a seasoned public servant and renowned economist, has received an endorsement from a prominent Fula businessman in Liberia.

The endorsement by Cherynor Jalloh, who is expected to contest for Senator in Montserrado County not only adds further weight to Moniba’s campaign for the October 10 polls but also highlights the growing support from diverse communities in the nation.

The Fula community occupies a prominent place in Liberia, with its rich cultural heritage and significant contributions to the nation’s economy, and has excelled in various fields, including business and academics.

Prior to endorsing the Moniba ticket, Jalloh served as a Member of Alexander Cummings’s official campaign team a few months ago, but he announced that he had officially tendered his resignation from Team Cummings “because he believed that the Moniba/Kpaan vision for Liberia offered a more direct path towards building a truly New Liberia.”

Jalloh, in his endorsement remark, cited Moniba’s impressive track record in public service and international connections in the developing world as the primary reasons for his endorsement.

“I was with Team Cummings’s official campaign advisory team. I have resigned so that I could endorse the Moniba/Kpaan team here today because I believe in the direction this team can take in this country,” Jalloh said.

“I believe in something called ‘conviction’ and my conviction is with the Moniba/Kpaan team. It has youthful energy, governmental experience, a solid record in developing this country, and plans to create a Liberia for everybody.

Jalloh believes that Moniba’s experience and expertise make him the ideal candidate to address the pressing economic challenges facing Liberia today.

It also serves as a testament to Moniba’s demonstrated commitment to national unity. His understanding and respect for the diverse ethnic makeup of Liberia have resonated strongly with the Fula businessman, who sees him as a leader capable of bridging divides and promoting harmonious coexistence among different communities.

In his acceptance speech, Moniba told Jalloh and hundreds of supporters in the historical settlement of Caldwell that his administration would considerably transform the socio-economic fabric of Liberia.

“The future of Liberia is here and it is with the Moniba/Kpaan ticket,” Moniba said. “Is not 10 years from now, two years from now, and not 20 years from now. It is now, on October 10, 2023. When you young people vote and vote right, we win. And when we win, Liberia wins.”

“The future is here. But that is only possible with your votes. It is about time you stop electing rogue leaders who have always failed and disappointed you and, instead, elect people with integrity, experience, and vision for Liberia, which I am bringing along with Madam Kpaan.

“Ten years from now, what will you be? What will you be able to say about yourself ten years from now? Think about ten years from now, how can we develop our country and change the narrative,” Moniba said.

“This is why you need to vote for a change ticket and with you behind me, I think we can do it soon. More importantly, when we achieved it together, Liberia will be better off and the results will start immediately. People will have confidence in this country again because of the government; they will trust us with their resources and businesses.”

Moniba who is the youngest person contesting the Liberian Presidency, has promised to fight corruption aggressively — terming it as cancer which has held back the country — from progressing.

“We cannot wait for development anymore. You owe it to yourself to vote for proper, capable leaders in this country, especially because Liberia is the oldest country in Africa and we cannot wait any longer to push Liberia on the development map to improve and have the best roads, and hospitals,” he said.

Moniba told the crowd that he would establish a robust anti-corruption agency, backed by legislation that promotes transparency and accountability at all levels of government.

He firmly believes that tackling corruption is not only a moral imperative but also a necessary step toward attracting foreign investment and fostering economic growth.

Moniba also wants to limit the size of the government — which currently serves as the largest employer in the country to make it more productive and cut down waste expenditures and constitute a gender inclusive Cabinet of capable and honest Liberians.

He has also promised to appoint a special counsel to prosecute corruption cases. Moniba, who holds a doctorate and has over three decades of professional experience, has garnered considerable support from various communities in Liberia, with populist policies aimed to foster inclusive growth, stimulating investment, and create jobs across all sectors.

Meanwhile, Jalloh’s endorsement has the potential to attract more support from the Fula community whose population is growing in number and reaches beyond just Montserrado into Cape Mount, Bomi, and other counties.
