Liberia: “I Will Stop Corruption in Liberia”

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Standard Bearer of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP), Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe, has disclosed that he will be the torchbearer of “corruption sweepers” if elected to the presidency comes October 10 elections.

He said to get a better Liberia, the Liberian people need an alternative leader like him (Gongloe), who has been a part of the struggle to make Liberia a better place for all. Gongloe insists that by using his vision and experience, he can solve many of the country’s challenges, ranging from a faltering economy to weak infrastructure, food insecurity, massive youth unemployment, and insecurity in the country.

He argued that the Liberian people need an alternative leader who does not say one thing and does something different.

“The Liberian people need an alternative leader who will not lie to them,” Gongloe said. “The Liberian people need a leader whose income and sources of income will be known to the people at all times.”

He stated that when given the mandate by the Liberian people, his regime will prevent corruption, bring corrupt actors to justice, and enhance international cooperation and partnerships.

“We will also make sure to expose corrupt activities. We will keep the public sector honest, transparent, and accountable,” he said.

According to him, the salaries and benefits of his cabinet members will be published and aired for public access, and officials found wanting corruption will be fired and turned over to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LCC) for further investigation and prosecution.

Gongloe stated that he would also ensure public officials accused of corruption were tried and, if guilty, would face the full weight of the law.

The LPP political leader, who is noted for carrying a homemade broom at public gatherings as a symbol of his intentions to sweep away corruption if he is elected as president, stressed that the only way to achieve this is to elect a leader like him who has served the Liberian people without stealing their money.

“The election of a person who does not steal the government’s money is important because, if the president does not steal, his ministers and those who serve under the ministers will not steal,” he noted.

He explained that Liberians should not see corruption as a way of life, but said transparency in law enforcement and court proceedings tends to promote peace and foreign investment in any country.

He emphasized that there will be no selective application of the law under his administration as President of the oldest African nation.

There must be justice for all in Liberia for the attainment of sustainable peace, progress, and prosperity in the country.

Gongloe also noted that he will redirect the economy of Liberia towards self-sufficiency in food production, and value-added export promotion, as well as expand economic activities in the rural areas by granting tax incentives to rural-based manufacturing companies.

As a politician, Gongloe has been able to raise the consciousness of Liberians on the negative effects of corruption by carrying a broom with the intent of ‘sweeping out’ corruption if elected in the 2023 elections.

Gongloe, the immediate past president of the Liberia National Bar Association, has a 10-count agenda for tackling the deficit in health care, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and unemployment, among others.

Gongloe is seen as the only presidential aspirant in the 2023 elections who dares to promote strict adherence to the rule of law, fight for justice, and tackle corruption by probing and retrieving every penny stolen by past and present governments in the country.

He has also attributed the underdevelopment of the country to the growing wave of corruption that has eaten the fabric of the state.

Gongloe said past and current leaders of the country have failed to see corruption as a major enemy of the state and are tight-lipped on prosecuting people caught in the web of the act.

The LPP political leader said Liberians are living in extreme poverty because of bad governance, and corruption.

He made the statement in Quoipa Town, Wolota Clan, Kpaai District #1, Bong County, on April 8, when the citizens of Quoipa Town traditionally presented him to the chiefs, and elders of the Wolota Clan for an onward presentation to the citizens of Bong County for their support to his presidential quest.
