Africa-Press – Liberia. Monrovia- The Acting President of the Liberia Football Association Sekou Konneh (Prof.) has commended the Liberia Petroleum Refining Corporation (LPRC) for keeping the flames alive with the Oilers Sports Association (OSA).
Konneh said LPRC’s support to OSA, which runs the football and basketball teams (sensational LPRC Oilers) is a true demonstration of its corporate social responsibility.
Delivering a keynote address at OSA’s induction ceremony on 10 February on behalf of LFA President Mustapha Raji, who is attending a FIFA Forward 3.0 seminar in Paris, France said Oilers have played a key role in the lives of many former and current players.
“Some of you today are successful because you were able to combine sports and education. This is because of the positive impact that LPRC have had on your life.
“We want that to continue with the new generation playing for your teams. Kindly encourage them to believe in their creator regardless of their religion and help them to do what they feel passionate about,” said Konneh.
He encouraged the leadership and players to not confuse movement with progress.
“What you have done at LPRC is commendable. You can do more. Sport is a business. You will need to redirect your energy. And let me borrow from Denzel Washington by saying you will need to redirect your investment.
“Don’t just strive to make a living but strive to make a difference. OSA is one of our key partners. They have been in this business for a long time. You aren’t waiting for an opportunity that the LFA will provide,” added Konneh.
Those installed were James Jappah, president; Rachel Baysah Vincent, vice president; S. Solomon Beah, Jr., general-secretary and John A. K. Leabeh as business manager.
Delivering his inaugural address, Jappah called on employees, former players and administrators to support his new programs.
“FIFA and CAF are calling on male teams to have female teams as part of the new club licensing program. This means we need more people like media and marketing officers to professionalize the workforce.
“We can’t do it alone. We need your support to grow OSA and make it the number one team in Liberia,” said Jappah.
