Africa-Press – Liberia. A non-for-profit organization, Kutoa Afrika Foundation, in collaboration with the Bill Rogers Youth Foundation, has trained some young Liberians in computer software programs.

The students, who graduated from the computer training program on Saturday, July 29, also underwent some mentorship programs during the course of the initiative.

The graduates were trained in Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs. During the course of the training, the beneficiaries were also mentored and urged to be focused in their future endeavors.

After a successful completion of the required program, four of the graduates were awarded computers for performing exceptionally and for the level of commitment shown during the course of the training.

Though many were selected for the program only seven young girls graduated.

Bill Rogers, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bill Rogers Youth Foundation urged the graduates to be innovative, creative and make use of the knowledge gained.

“The foundation has prepared you to enter the world of technology. Take your time and utilize the knowledge,” he said.

Rogers calls on the graduates to continue to take advantage of every opportunity that will prepare them for the tasks ahead as their graduation from the computer school is a dream come true.

“You are grateful because people who don’t know your history are trying to invest in you. You have to be proud and celebrate, especially the computer knowledge gained,” he who serves as motivational speaker said.

Rogers told the graduates that the world is now looking forward to seeing the utilization of the knowledge gained, while calling on them to be ambassadors of the institution, community and the society in general.

“Today, you have come to the Kutoa Foundation and you are now computer literate. You are now the face of this program and I want to urge you to go out and show to the world what this institution has put in you. You have done yourself the best by acquiring computer knowledge which is very important to every profession,” Rogers told the graduates.

Emmanuel Divine Kpoto, Program Director of Kutoa Afrika Foundation said the dream of the institution is to empower Liberians, especially young girls and women.

“We are excited too to see our changemakers smiling and this is something we should appreciate God for. Every year we have a program that involves mentorship, tutoring and computer programs. The mentorship is basically for high school students,” Kpoto said.

According to him, Kutoa Afrika Foundation has been providing scholarships, school materials and other support to young people.

The Kutoa Afrika Foundation was established in 2019 to transform and restore the community during the crisis.

Oretha Williams, a parent of a graduate, expressed gratitude to the Kutoa Afrika Foundation for joining parents in educating their children and also providing mentorship.

Ms. Williams said during the course of the training, she witnessed serious commitment from her daughter and even pressure to get her a computer, which is laudable.

“This is a great initiative because nowadays, people are not looking at beauty but what you have acquired and able to put on the table. We pray that God will continue to bless and this foundation will grow stronger to empower more students,” she said.

She said learning computer programs is not easy but she has always encouraged girls to be prepared for the future.
