Liberia Launches Intensive Tech Training for Border Security Modernization

Africa-Press – Liberia. The program aims to enhance the capacity of Liberian officials in modern systems such as eBorder solutions, Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems, Risk Assessment Modules, External Data Interfaces, and Permit Registration systems.

A three-day intensive training in advanced border management technology has kicked off in Monrovia, targeting senior officials from key government institutions.

The training is being conducted by SOMAPA IT, a leading Asian technology firm specializing in border modernization solutions.

The program aims to enhance the capacity of Liberian officials in modern systems such as eBorder solutions, Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems, Risk Assessment Modules, External Data Interfaces, and Permit Registration systems.

SOMAPA IT has over 30 years of global experience in border technology. The initiative follows the 2024 visit of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) Deputy Commissioner for Operations to Thailand, which resulted in a formal agreement between LIS and SOMAPA IT.

Nigel Manns, Executive Vice President for Global Engagement at SOMAPA, said the group’s objective in Liberia includes assisting the government with project planning, software development, system integration, data security, and long-term support.

He emphasized that Liberia’s eBorder system will serve as a central hub for coordination and real-time decision-making across institutions. Tools like the Risk Assessment Module will help agencies assess potential threats based on traveler data and behavior patterns, while the PNR system will provide a centralized platform to collect and analyze passenger information from airlines.

The training, held in Monrovia, is being attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Justice, Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, Liberia Revenue Authority, Liberia National Police, National Security Agency, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Liberia Immigration Service.

LIS Commissioner General-designate Elijah Rufus reaffirmed the Liberian government’s support for SOMAPA IT’s work, describing the partnership as vital to building a smarter, more secure, and resilient border management system.

He encouraged participants to view the training as a collaborative opportunity to build a robust, secure, and efficient migration framework aligned with Liberia’s national security and economic goals.
