Africa-Press – Liberia. The presidential candidate of the All Liberian Coalition Party (ALCOP), Lusine F. Kamara, has said that it is high time that Liberia got a leader who is honest and patriotic, who will work in the interest of the people.
“Liberia must be run with honesty, patriotism and sacrifice for the sake of the people. If not, the country will remain backward and the people will continue to suffer in a way they don’t deserve,” Kamara, a former Minister of Finance, said at the official launch of his party’s 2023 campaign in Gardnerville Township on Sunday September 10.
Kamara told the mammoth crowd that when elected in October, his leadership will provide an honest and responsible governance system in which the revenues will be protected primarily for the development of Liberia.
“The solution we have is to change that patronage and corrupt mindset our leaders have had over the years and give you honest and responsible leadership that will improve your living standard in a sustainable way,” he said. “We think of giving a leadership that will work hard to transform Liberia from a development underdog to a pace setter of development in the region.”
For the past 176 years, Kamara added, the leaders failed to put Liberia interest above their personal interests. “They neither put the country first nor gave total commitment to its development and progress,” Kamara, who is also a former Commerce and Industry Minister, Kamara said.
“This is what we at ALCOP want to change and give you a government that is committed and dedicated to improving the wellbeing of you, the people,” he said. “For us to be able to do this, you must stop selling your votes for a bag of rice or money. You must join us as your honest leaders who have come to redeem you.”
He called on Liberians to be of help to themselves by setting themselves free from the grasps of wicked and heartless leaders. “Help us to help you. Support us if you want to be redeemed. Join our campaign and let us redeem Liberia together!,” He said. “Come and join ALCOP for honest and responsible leadership that will take this country from backwardness to progress; a leadership that will make this country a better home for all Liberians.”
In ALCOP, we want a Liberia that is Healthy: where the healthcare is affordable, accessible, standard and available to all parts of the country.
ALCOP wants a Liberia that is Educated where there is a standard education system that is mandatory, affordable and accessible by all ,” Kamara said.
He said ALCOP wants a Liberia that is Productive and Prosperous, a Middle Income Economy— that promotes Private Sector development and attracts Foreign Direct Investment.
The former Finance Minister Kamara said ALCOP wants a Liberia that is full of Peace & justice for all.
Kamara said ALCOP wants a Liberia that promotes economic empowerment, quality life and better living standard for all.
The party says it is striving for a Liberia where there is equal treatment and equal opportunity for everyone; a society that prevents discrimination and marginalization, and a country that creates a balance in a democratic space.
“We want a Liberia that Sustains human dignity through the provision of quality education, the means to learn and develop skills for professional careers and job creation for the Liberian people to earn their living in dignity and self-respect,” he said.
He told supporters and partisans that in order for this vision to work in Liberia, you have to join our campaign and work with us so that together we can redeem Liberia.
“Our combined actions are needed. Every tribe and every county of Liberia must work together for a better Liberia,” Kamara said.
He said Liberia is 176 years old and still cannot meet the basic needs of the population.
“The need for basic infrastructure such as road connectivity; reliable and affordable supply of electricity, water, healthcare, education, jobs, amongst others,” Kamara said.
According to him, these issues continue to haunt Liberia because the leaders take the government as a trophy for the people who are in power.
He said the leaders run the government for themselves, with little or no care for the citizens and the future generations, stating “this keeps Liberia backward in the region.”
