Liberia: NAREMOL Condemns Opposition Leaders over Disunity; Says their “Self-Seeking Interest” Impede the Chance of Making President Weah a One-term President

Africa-Press – Liberia. Monrovia — Since the withdrawal of Unity Party, the biggest political party that was in the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) on February 15, 2022, there have been a series of condemnations from Liberians both home and abroad. This time is the National Revolutionary Movement of Liberia (NAREMOL), a group of young political activists with its leader being Siafa Kanneh, the former National Youth Chairman of the All Liberian Party, one of the four parties that established the CPP.

Kanneh in a press interaction calls on leaders of the opposition political parties (both past and present) to openly apologize to their supporters and thousands of “struggling Liberians” who saw hope in their political marriage. According to him, Liberians saw the collaborating Political Parties (CPP) as an alternative for Liberia’s transformation in 2023.

He added that the form and manner in which members of CPP have conducted themselves over the past months have made many Liberians to lose taste in the CPP as many of its members have put self-seeking interest over national agenda.

“The actions of the CPP of recent did not only dash the hopes of the hopelessly hopeless struggling Liberians who are eager to change the led administration, but also highly frustrated many Liberians who were adequately prepared to team-up with the CPP to make this envisioned change collectively in 2023,” he said.

NAREMOL Leader added: “In amidst of the CDC government inability to prescribe a vibrant governance policy in adherence to the rule of Law and Genuine Economic growth, the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) was seen by many Liberians as a viable political substitute to make Weah a one term President. Repulsively, at the detriment of many Liberians who hoped to be placed in the CPP, leaders of the CPP decided to put personal importance over the National agenda.”

According to him, the role of the opposition in every democracy is to critique the ruling party on policy issues and present better and workable solutions for the betterment of the state and the people and not to struggle for what they term as personal quest.

This, Kanneh says CPP didn’t see the lapses of the Weah led government as an issue; rather, they reduced the entire opposition to power struggle, leaving the hope of many Liberians in the drainage. NAREMOL Leader said: “It is sad to acquaint you that the CPP dissolution was not on policy differences but individual quest for state power.”

“We strongly believe that in order to have a competitive democratic process in 2023, we need a consolidated opposition; therefore, there is a need for leaders of the opposition to view all other issues as normal politics and realign with prescribed policy.”
