Africa-Press – Liberia. The Government of Liberia, through the Assistant Minister for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Karishma Pelham-Raad, delivered a statement reaffirming Liberia’s dedication to humanitarian principles at the 34th International Conference of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC) in Geneva.
Speaking on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Hon. Pelham-Raad highlighted Liberia’s steadfast commitment to the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and voluntary service, which are central to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. “This forum stands as a beacon of hope and unity, dedicated to the principles of humanity…principles that lie at the core of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,” she stated.
Amid ongoing global turmoil, Hon. Pelham-Raad emphasized the importance of the ICRC’s work, particularly as crises in conflict-ridden regions like the Middle East escalate. She urged member states to uphold their shared responsibilities in promoting international humanitarian law and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations affected by conflict, disaster, and displacement.
The Assistant Minister underscored Liberia’s collaborative efforts with the Red Cross to provide life-saving assistance, restore family connections, and enhance disaster preparedness. “Through these actions, we demonstrate our shared commitment to alleviating human suffering and promoting a culture of peace and resilience,” she remarked, noting Liberia’s pride in supporting the Red Cross’s mission.
Highlighting contemporary challenges such as climate change, the global refugee crisis, and pandemic threats, Hon. Pelham-Raad advocated for long-term solutions that address the root causes of these issues. She called on member states and humanitarian partners to strengthen multilateral cooperation, uphold humanitarian access, and prioritize civilian protection—especially for women and children—in humanitarian efforts.
In closing, Hon. Pelham-Raad extended Liberia’s gratitude to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for its unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes. “We remain committed to supporting these efforts…to advance our shared goal: a world where human dignity is protected, and every individual, regardless of circumstance, is given the support they need to thrive.”
The 34th ICRC conference has convened nations and representatives from across the globe to address pressing humanitarian challenges and reinforce global commitment to protecting human dignity in times of crisis.
