Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, Nimba Detachment, has made a significant arrest involving two Fulani individuals who were caught in possession of a considerable amount of narcotic substances in Ganta. According to police sources, the street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be approximately L$374,000.
LDEA Nimba Commander, Thomas Saye, said the two men, aged 24 and 23, were apprehended while on their way to River Gee County with the illegal substances. The alleged traffickers have been identified as Alhaji Bah, 24, and Abdul Lastkin, 20, both residents of River Gee County.
It is reported that the suspects had left River Gee County on October 23, 2023 and, upon reaching Ganta, one of them, Alhaji Bah, continued his journey to Monrovia, where he purchased the drugs within the Battery Factory Community.
Acting on a tip-off, the LDEA arrested the individuals in the Catholic Community in Ganta. They were found in the house of a motorcyclist who had been contacted to transport them from Ganta in the early morning.
“From our tip-off, we arrested those guys in the Catholic Community in Ganta in the house of a motorcyclist, who was contacted to take them from Ganta early in the morning,” said Commander Saye.
The Commander explained that upon Alhaji’s return from Monrovia with the substances, they hired a motorcyclist named Justin Blake to take them back to River Gee. As it was late, they stayed overnight at Blake’s house, planning to leave early the next day.
“When Alhaji came from Monrovia with the substance, they hired a motorcyclist to take them back to Rivergee but, because it was late, the motorcyclist (Justin Blake) took them to his house so they could leave earlier the next day,” he said.
The arrested individuals confessed to their involvement in the crime. They claimed that they were lured by friends in River Gee County who convinced them that dealing in narcotics, specifically ‘kush’, would yield fast money, much more than minerals.
Both men admitted to the LDEA of the crime and appealed for mercy, saying they were fooled by some friends in River Gee, who told them narcotics substances make faster money than minerals.
“We were moved when some friends told us that the drug ‘Kush’ was a fast money-making substance, so we decided to invest in it,” the culprits told the LDEA upon their arrest.
The two men now face charges of unlicensed possession and sale of controlled drugs or substances. They have been forwarded to the Sanniquellie Magisterial Court, where they will be tried in accordance with the relevant laws, including the police penal law, sections 14.108, 14.111, and 14.103.
Unfortunately, it is worth noting that the LDEA is currently facing challenges due to a lack of proper mobility and resources to effectively combat the proliferation of narcotics substances in the county. Some officers have reported that they rely on commercial motorcycles for patrols and operations, further limiting their effectiveness.
Overall, this arrest by the LDEA Nimba Detachment serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the agency’s commitment to tackling such criminal activity.
