Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberian international assistant referee Hannah L. Moses has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate at the 2025 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26.

Moses becomes the first Liberian referee ever chosen to officiate at WAFCON, Africa’s top women’s football tournament. Her selection highlights her individual achievement and marks a significant milestone for Liberia in international football officiating.

CAF confirmed her appointment following her successful completion of the elite women’s referees preparation course held in Cairo, Egypt, in May 2025. The course brought together top female referees from across the continent to ensure high officiating standards for upcoming tournaments.

This selection is Moses’ fourth international assignment in less than two years. She previously officiated at the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco (2024), the All-African Games in Ghana (2024), and the TotalEnergies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (2025). Her consistent performance at these events has earned praise from the CAF Referees Committee.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) congratulated Moses on her achievement, calling it a proud moment for the country. “Hannah Moses’ selection is a testament to her hard work, discipline, and professionalism,” the LFA said in a statement released Thursday. “She continues to represent Liberia with pride, and we remain committed to nurturing talents like hers at every level of the game.”

The LFA also reiterated its commitment to supporting the development of referees, players, and coaches—especially women and youth—through training and international exposure.

Moses’ selection comes at a time when women’s football in Liberia is gaining attention. Her success is expected to inspire a new generation of female referees and sports professionals in the country.

The 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will feature top national women’s teams from across the continent and will serve as a qualifying event for global competitions, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Held every two years, the tournament attracts a large global audience and provides an important platform for African talent.
