LTA Announces Meta TikTok Monetization Training

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has announced a two-day national training program aimed at helping Liberian content creators understand and benefit from social media monetization opportunities through global platforms Meta and TikTok.

The training, scheduled for May 6–7, 2026, at the Bella Cassa Hotel on 3rd Street in Sinkor, will bring together 150 selected content creators from across Liberia to receive practical instruction on digital content creation and monetization strategies.

According to the LTA, the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are collaborating with the authority in the selection of participants for the program.

The initiative targets individuals involved in a broad range of digital creative activities, including comedians, storytellers, challenge creators, reaction video producers, and other social media content creators whose work focuses on engaging and entertaining audiences.

The training is part of ongoing efforts by the LTA to strengthen Liberia’s digital economy and create opportunities for young creators to generate income through online platforms.

Meta, the American multinational technology company that owns and operates major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads, will play a central role in the training.

Meta’s monetization tools are currently active in eight African countries, including neighboring Ghana, allowing eligible creators to earn income through advertisements, audience engagement, and other digital revenue streams.

Earlier this year, LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi met with certified Meta executives in Lagos, Nigeria, where discussions were held on expanding opportunities for Liberian content creators through monetization training and capacity building.

To qualify for monetization on Meta platforms, creators must meet several requirements, including being at least 18 years old, complying with the company’s community standards, and achieving a minimum follower threshold.

Additionally, monetization requires supported banking infrastructure to enable direct payments to creators.

During the two-day training, participants will be introduced to a variety of practical skills and strategies designed to help them succeed on digital platforms. Topics will include content creation tools, techniques for producing high-performing content, hands-on content creation sessions, monetization opportunities, social media ethics, and industry best practices.

TikTok, another major platform featured in the training, has become one of the world’s fastest-growing social media networks, particularly among younger audiences.

Owned by a Chinese technology company, TikTok has gained global popularity for its short-form video content, live streaming features, and powerful algorithms that allow new creators to reach large audiences quickly.

The platform’s tools include short video production, filters, animations, and live streaming capabilities, which often enable content to go viral within a short period.

Earlier this year, LTA Commissioners Patrick Honnah and Ben Fofana met with TikTok executives in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of ongoing discussions to explore opportunities for Liberia’s participation in the platform’s monetization ecosystem.

However, officials noted that monetization on TikTok requires several national-level frameworks to be in place before creators can receive payments.

These requirements include data protection laws, payment infrastructure, tax frameworks, and sufficient local advertising investment. According to the LTA, no African country currently meets all three of these requirements simultaneously, which presents challenges for full monetization implementation across the continent.

Meanwhile, the Department of New Media at the Ministry of Information is responsible for overseeing the application process for the training.

Content creators interested in participating must apply in person during the application period scheduled from Monday, April 13 through Friday, April 17, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Applicants are required to submit a written application explaining the type of content they produce and how the training will help advance their work.

The LTA noted that local content creators have long awaited opportunities for structured training in social media monetization and digital entrepreneurship.

Organizers say the goal of the initiative is to empower Liberian creators to improve the quality of their digital content while also creating pathways for income generation.

Officials believe social media monetization can serve as an important catalyst for economic growth, particularly among young people seeking alternative employment opportunities in the digital economy.

“Social media monetization acts as a catalyst for digital entrepreneurship, allowing individuals to circumvent traditional barriers to entry into the formal economy, generating direct, tangible income,” the LTA stated.

At the conclusion of the two-day program, participants will receive Certificates of Participation recognizing their completion of the training.

For individuals unable to attend in person, the LTA also announced that the training will be live-streamed, allowing broader public access despite the 150-participant capacity limit at the Bella Cassa venue.

The Liberia Telecommunications Authority says it is proud to facilitate the opportunity and hopes the program will encourage local creators to produce higher-quality, engaging content while positioning Liberia’s digital community to benefit from global monetization opportunities.
