Africa-Press – Liberia. To strengthen Youth advocacy and peacebuilding networks, the Mano River Union Youth Parliament Liberia Chapter (MRUYP- LC) has launched a comprehensive nationwide youth mapping exercise.
Daniel N. Nills, MRUYP- LC, Speaker said on Monday that the mapping exercise aimed at updating youth database system, enhancing collaborative efforts with youth organizations, while actively engaging in peacebuilding, advocacy, and civil initiatives across Liberia.
“This vital undertaking will identify, connect, and empower youth-led groups, fostering greater collaboration and impact national developments”, Nills says.
According to him, the MRUYP- LC, is a crucial step towards strengthening collective voice, and capacity of Liberian youth in peacebuilding, security and sustainable development.
Nills discloses that the mapping exercise is expected to run from May 26 to June 9, 2025, allowing youth groupings to apply, which will be done in a competitive vetting process.
Additionally, he stresses that verified data of youth organizations will qualify them to participate in the elections of youth parliamentarians across the country.
“We’ve got to understand the landscape of youth involvement and by doing this mapping exercise, we can better coordinate our efforts, identify gaps, and provide targeted support to organizations dedicated to peace, justice, and community development”, Speaker Nills adds.
In a related development, he announces that the Youth Parliament has formally endorsed Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
He stressed in a news conference that the MRUYP believes that Liberia’s unique post-conflict experience and steadfast commitment to peace and regional stability make it an ideal candidate to contribute meaningfully to global peace and security discussions.
“We the Mano River Union Youth Parliament believes that Liberia has demonstrated remarkable resilience and a deep understanding of the complexities of peacebuilding, and that its voice on the UN Security Council would be invaluable.”
He notes that already, all African Countries’ Youth Parliaments have endorsed Liberia’s bid for the UN Seat, something that has positioned the nation in a better position, as its inclusion will strengthen advocacy for preventive diplomacy, inclusive peace processes, which are critical roles of youth in conflict resolution globally.
