A group of professionals and business institutions in Margibi County said last week that their support for the second term bid of President George Weah is hinged on the peace and development being sustained by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government in the country.
The groups include teachers’ associations, principals’ association, National Parents Teachers Association Network of Liberia Margibi chapter, Rural Women Association and the Margibi Business Association.
Heads of the various groups made the statement of endorsement in Kakata, the county’s capital, at the launch of a L$20million scholarship fund drive for students of the county sponsored by the Minister of State, Nathaniel McGill through the government.
They said their support for Weah was not for selfish or political reasons, stressing that they trusted the president and believed in the commitment he made to provide basic social amenities in an atmosphere of peace and dialogue devoid political intimidation.
Anthony Mulbah Jallah, head of the Margibi Principals’ Association, lauded the Government of Liberia (GoL) for its supports to education, stating that his institution is resolved to support Weah’s second term.
“On behalf of the Principals’ Association of Margibi under whose mobilization we have all gathered here today it’s a pleasure for us to overwhelmingly demonstrate our gratitude to the government. We can assure President Weah of our highest support for his re-election in 2023,” Jallah says.
“At times likes this, people of goodwill must rise to the clarion call to command what is good for our country. When it comes to the time when Liberia is presented with a choice of who can be entrusted with the leadership of this great country we will rally behind President Weah.”
“Thank God we are old enough and informed enough to know the antecedents of President Weah, and his character traits. We bear witness that he is a man of Integrity and a national patriot, the likes of whom are few in Liberia of today amongst the past and present leaders.”
Steve Mulbah, head of the Teachers’ Association of Margibi County, commended the government and said there was no alternative to Weah in 2023. Mulbah applauded the “massive development” being carried out by the president which he said was a right step in repositioning the country to its past glory.
Also, the head of the National Traditional Council of Liberia Margibi Chapter, Chief Peter K.W. Barnyou, who is also Paramount Chief of Gibi District, applauded the government and maintained that they stand with the government for a second term.
“We believe that continuing with President Weah’s leadership could be the best decision for our country and people. We are optimistic that Pres. Weah will do better if he’s retained so, the regime must be given a second chance,” they said.
