Maryland Rep. Jury Donates Medical Equipment to Hospital

Africa-Press – Liberia. Maryland County Electoral District 1 Representative, P. Mike Jury, has donated a 40-foot container of medical equipment valued at approximately US$150,000 to the James Jerkins Dossen Referral Hospital in Harper City, Maryland County.

The items donated include Hospital beds, wheelchairs, crutches, syringes, hospital office tables and many other kinds of other equipment.

The donation ceremony, held at the hospital on Monday, March 30, brought together hospital administrators, Rep. Jury, Maryland County Superintendent Henry B. Cole Jr., representatives of Partners In Health and other stakeholders.

Speaking during the presentation, Rep. Jury said the donation fulfills a promise he made to the hospital following a request in 2025.

According to him, he pledged to provide two 40-foot containers of medical supplies, with the first delivered in October 2025.

He noted that the latest shipment represents the second and final container under that commitment.

Rep. Jury explained that the procurement of the medical equipment was made possible through his personal initiative, with additional support from Marylanders residing in the United States.

He further disclosed that the hospital administration contributed approximately US$5,000 toward the transportation cost from Monrovia to Maryland County.

“This is the second 40-foot container. I want to thank the hospital administration for working with us to identify the most needed equipment for this facility,” the Maryland lawmaker stated.

Receiving the donation, Dr. Shadrach K. Gono, Medical Director of J.J. Dossen Referral Hospital, praised Rep. Jury for what he described as a very important contribution to healthcare delivery in the county.

Dr. Gono noted that even with adequate staffing, the absence of essential equipment can hinder effective service delivery.

He added that the newly donated supplies will significantly improve hospital operations and enhance patient care. “These are critical items we need, and we are grateful for this donation. This is not the first time Representative Jury has supported this hospital. The equipment will be used across every department to improve service delivery,” Dr. Gono said.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the county authorities, Superintendent Henry B. Cole Jr. expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for the donation and encouraged hospital administrators to ensure the equipment is properly maintained and used for its intended purpose.

Supt. Cole also commended individuals and partners who continue to support the hospital, emphasizing that such contributions are vital to strengthening healthcare services in Maryland County.

The donation is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery at J.J. Dossen Referral Hospital, which serves as the major referral facility for southeastern Liberia.
