Matadi Sets New 60m National Record

Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia’s international sprinter Emmanuel Matadi continues to enjoy record breaking moments in 60m indoor events since the start of 2022. For the second time in less than a month, Matadi has set a new 60m national record and a new personal best.

Matadi, 31, set the new Liberia national record and new personal best when he won the men’s 60m by clocking 6.52 seconds, 0.3 seconds less than his previous, on Saturday at the Eastern Indoors of the American Track League in Louisville, Kentucky.

The American Track League is a fan and an athlete driven US-based track & field league for professional athletes that “gives athletes a home field for elite competition and also serves as a guiding factor.”

Matadi booked his place in the final when he clocked 6.61 seconds as winner of Heat 2 at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. Matadi finished ahead of America’s Brandon Carnes and Elijah Eli Hall-Thompson, who clocked 6.53 and 6.61 respectively.

The 31-year-old, who has held the 60m indoor national record since 2016, set his first new national record this year when he clocked 6.55 seconds on January 28 at the G5 & Super 22 Invitational Indoor Championships in Houston.
