Africa-Press – Liberia. Renowned leadership expert Dr. John C. Maxwell has praised Eric Saah Nyuma for his groundbreaking work in spreading transformational leadership across the African continent.
Mr. Nyuma, an employee of the Liberia Revenue Authority currently seconded to the Office of the First Lady of the Republic of Liberia to support the development of administrative best practices, compliance systems, and leadership initiatives, also serves as the Regional Director for Africa at EQUIP/Maxwell Leadership – a global professional leaderships development network. He was recognized and celebrated by Dr. John C. Maxwell during the 5th Annual 3T Leadership Conference, held at the serene and iconic Sarit Expo Center in Nairobi, Kenya.
Dr. Maxwell—author of nearly 100 books on leadership—has trained millions of leaders in 196 countries and addressed audiences ranging from Fortune 500 companies to presidents of nations.
A Liberian Leader Making Continental Impact
Eric Saah Nyuma, an enterprising Liberian and certified John C. Maxwell’s leadership coach, has dedicated more than a decade to advancing leadership development. He is redefining leadership not as a position of privilege but as a calling to serve.
Through EQUIP/Maxwell’s flagship Beyond Success program, Nyuma leads a thriving network of emerging leaders across Africa. His influence extends far beyond Liberia, shaping a new generation of leaders across the continent and beyond.
The 3T Conference, held from November 19–23, gathered leaders from 30 African nations as well as participants from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe/Romania—further reflecting the program’s growing global reach.
EQUIP/Maxwell Leadership’s Roots in Africa
It All Started in Liberia
For Nyuma, leadership is not merely a career—it is a calling. Liberia became the birthplace of EQUIP/Maxwell Leadership’s expanded work in Africa, laying the foundation for what has become a continent-wide movement spanning 30 countries.
In 2017 and 2018, during the organization’s Salt & Light initiative, Liberia’s outstanding performance under Nyuma’s selfless leadership drew international attention. This success, along with other key contributions, led to his promotion from Liberia Coordinator to Regional Director for Africa.
When EQUIP/Maxwell Leadership transitioned from training to transformation between 2019 and 2020, the Beyond Success program was piloted in Liberia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. During this critical period of rebranding and retooling, Nyuma worked closely with the global team—an opportunity he describes as both humbling and transformative.
He strongly advocated for the program’s expansion across Africa, and once approved, Beyond Success spread rapidly to Malawi, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger, Eswatini, Uganda, Namibia, Rwanda, and Ghana between 2020 and 2021.
By late 2021 to the present, the program has continued to grow significantly under his leadership—reaching Kenya, Mozambique, Cameroon, Togo, Zambia, South Africa, Lesotho, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Botswana, South Sudan, Burundi, Benin, Senegal, Gambia, and Ethiopia.
Navigating Challenges with Purpose
Building a continental movement is no small task. Resistance to change, resource limitations, and diverse political landscapes present ongoing challenges. Still, Nyuma remains unwaveringly hopeful.
“Challenges are opportunities for innovation,” he says. “By working together and engaging communities, we’re creating solutions that are both practical and sustainable.”
At the Nairobi conference, leaders shared success stories and strategies that highlighted the power of adaptability, resilience, and collaboration in leadership.
A Vision for Africa’s Future
Nyuma envisions an Africa guided by leaders who see leadership as a responsibility to serve others and create meaningful, lasting impact. The Beyond Success program is central to this vision—equipping leaders with practical tools that inspire positive transformation.
“Transformational leadership is not just about solving today’s problems,” Nyuma reflected. “It’s about creating a legacy that future generations can build upon.
