Africa-Press – Liberia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Liberia has hosted a landmark European Union-wide Economic Diplomacy Forum in Brussels, gathering business leaders from across Europe for high-level government-to-business (G2B) and business-to-business (B2B) negotiations.
The initiative, originally envisioned by Liberia’s Embassy in Brussels as a Benelux-focused event for Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, was expanded to encompass all of Europe under the strategic leadership of Foreign Minister Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti. The Ministry secured financial and moral support from the European Union and leading Liberian investors, including ArcelorMittal and other private sector partners, enabling participation from businesses across all 27 EU Member States and Liberia.
The expanded forum now serves as a comprehensive platform for direct negotiations, partnership development, and deal-making between Liberian public- and private-sector leaders and their European counterparts.
Highlighting the forum’s purpose, Minister Nyanti stated, “We are here because we want deals. We are here because we want jobs for our people. We are here because we want a diversified and prosperous Liberia.”
Liberia’s delegation includes senior government officials from Finance, Public Works, Agriculture, and Commerce, the Chairperson of the National Investment Commission, and the Minister of Information. They are joined by representatives from state-owned enterprises, the Liberia Business Association, the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, and prominent Liberian business leaders. Together, they are engaging European companies across priority sectors: Infrastructure, Agriculture, Energy, Trade, Tourism, and Investment.
This convening illustrates Liberia’s evolving economic diplomacy strategy, shifting from traditional development cooperation to structured trade and investment partnerships designed to create jobs, stimulate private-sector growth, and diversify the national economy.
Liberia’s embassies abroad, led by the Embassy in Brussels, are actively advancing this economic diplomacy strategy. The forum has received unified support from Liberian diplomats across Europe, reflecting a whole-of-government and whole-of-diplomatic corps commitment to expanding trade and investment ties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends appreciation to all Liberian Ambassadors in Europe, especially Ambassador Levi Demmah and the team at the Embassy of Liberia in Brussels, for their foundational work in conceptualizing and organizing the forum.
The Ministry also acknowledges the coordination efforts of Deputy Minister Ibrahim Nyei and Assistant Minister Leon Talery, whose leadership was key to delivering a successful and inclusive EU-wide platform.
By convening leaders from across the European Union and Liberia’s key economic institutions and private sector, the Ministry has established this forum as a practical marketplace for partnerships and economic growth.
