Africa-Press – Liberia. Paynesville City- Monrovia Super Kings came from behind to beat South Beach Smashers 140 points to 139 points in 10 overs in the Tally Premier League Season six Cricket tournament final at the ELWA Compound Pitch.

It was Monrovia Super Kings’ second league title, equalling defeated finalist, South Beach Smashers’ record of two titles in the last six editions.

The final will live long in the memory of cricket lovers, not only for Monrovia Super Kings retaining the title but for the thrilling cricket that was played between both sides.

South Beach Smashers pull off a fantastic start, battled first, and scored 139 points in 15 wickets but Monrovia Super Kings took a frantic charge of the contest, battled second, and scored 140 points in 10 wickets to retain the championship.

Speaking at the climax of the championship, Deputy Minister for Sports G. Andy Quamie commanded the organizers for the sacrifices and resources put in to keep cricket alive in the country.

Minister Quamie expressed his desire to negotiate with the government for the organizers to train Liberians to have more on board for the latter days.

Said Quamie, “Cricket is not popular in Liberia like Zimbabwe, South Africa, and hosts of other African countries with huge numbers of foreigners who love it.”

“For us, it is new here and to see you putting in your time always to keep it going is worth appreciation.”

He added “I think we need to take one step forward with this sport now. We have been talking with Mr. Roopesh Rami over the years as to how we can improve on it in terms of having more Liberians train.”

Also making a brief remark, chief organizer, Roopesh Rami acknowledged that more Liberians have shown interest in the sport over the years, but the issue of sponsorship to have them prepare has become the major challenge.

He, however, commended Michael Lombeh for winning the Best African player award for the second time.
