Employees of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) have distanced themselves from a recent petition issued by a purported Workers Association Leadership, which gave President Nyuma Joseph Boakai’s government an ultimatum based on a vote of no confidence in the Director-General’s leadership. The employees stated that they are a professional entity, apolitical in their duties, and not authorized to issue ultimatums to the government.
In a statement released on Monday, the employees clarified their stance, saying, “NaFAA is a professional entity, therefore, we are apolitical in the discharge of our duties and not clothed with the authority to give the government an ultimatum nor pass a vote of no confidence in an institution that represents the government.”
The employees emphasized that the petition does not represent the entire workforce of NaFAA. They asserted that there were no consultations, meetings, or resolutions held regarding the petition.
“We encourage the concerned group to direct their grievances to the appropriate authorities and await redress,” the statement continued.
The employees also reiterated their commitment to maintaining professionalism and remaining apolitical in the discharge of their duties. They highlighted the progress and gains made by the institution and emphasized the importance of preserving them.
In a cautionary note, the employees warned the concerned group about the implications of their actions, stating, “Their proceedings are wrong, and we must be careful not to set the wrong precedence.”
The statement comes in response to a petition issued by a purported Workers Association Leadership within NaFAA, which had given the government an ultimatum and threatened unspecified actions. However, the employees have distanced themselves from this petition, reiterating their commitment to professionalism and apolitical conduct.
