“National Handball Association Needs Government’s Supports” – Says Acting LNHA President

Africa-Press – Liberia. The acting president of Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA) J. Aratus Larkpor, is calling on the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia National Olympics Committee (LNOC) to support the growth of handball in Liberia.

Larkpor, speaking over the weekend at the closing program of the association’s 2021 national league at the Sports Commission on Broad Street, said they need support to continue the running of their national league.

“We need support from the government of Liberia because it is our greatest hope to introduce the game of handball into various colleges and universities in Liberia despite the few challenges such as lack of office space, playing pitch as well as financial support from the government of Liberia. The support to run the league and organization has been from our individual pockets” the LNHA acting president said.

According to him, handball is one the fastest growing sports in Liberia after football, basketball and kickball, but despite efforts being made by the association to improve the game in Liberia, the sports is yet to receive financial support from the LNOC, the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Ducor Athletic and Navigators were crowned champions and runner-up of the association’s first ever organized national league. Several players were certificated for their brilliant performances doing the association’s just ended national league.

Johnson Gbadeh of Ducor Athletic received the Most Valuable Player award while Hassan Tucker of Mighty Rangers was named the Most Improved Player, Emmanuel G. Kollie of Ducor Athletic received the best goalkeeper award, The most disciplined team award was won by Central Freeport.

Former Lone Star head coach, Thomas Kojo who currently serves as director of Sports at the Ministry of Youth and sports, congratulated the champions Ducor Athletics, players and the runner-up Navigators for their achievement.

He urged the teams and players to take the association’s upcoming league more seriously because it would be challenging. The Director of Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports assures the handball family of the ministry fullest support for the growth of the game and youth that have passion for Handball.
