Africa-PressLiberia. Nigeria’s national football team Super Eagles beat on Friday the Lone Star of Liberia 2-0 in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

This win made Nigeria top the Group C after the second match of the qualifier, as the first match in the group involving Central Africa Republic and Cape Verde on Wednesday ended in a 1-1 score draw in Douala, Cameroon. The goals came from England-based forward Kelechi Iheanacho in the 22nd and 44th minutes respectively at the Lagos Teslim Balogun Stadium.

The Super Eagles had to defend well to withstand a barrage of attacks from the Liberians in the first 10 minutes. Nigeria’s Ola Ainathe attempted a shot from range in the 10th minute, but it went off off target. In the 22nd minute, Iheancho scored for the home side following an assist from midfielder Alex Iwobi.

Iheanacho then scored his second of the game on the stroke of half time with Iwobi once again providing the assist. The Super Eagles are expected to fly out of Nigeria to the island of Mindelo to take on the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in their next game on Tuesday.
