The intervention followed recent protests against the company management, which led to the arrest and detention of several employees.

In response, the lawmakers facilitated dialogue between the workers and company representatives, yielding several recommendations.

They proposed sending formal communication to the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) to clarify tax deductions for contractors workers, alleged AFCONS deducted of US$15 per employee instead of the standard US$10.

The leaders also called for independent testing of the workers’ drinking water and urged the company to address wrongful dismissals by reinstating affected employees or providing due compensation, especially since many claimed they received no formal contracts.
