Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberian champions LPRC Oilers lost 2-0 to Raja Casablanca in CAF Totalenergies preliminary 2nd round 2nd leg at the Mohammed V Stadium situated in the heart of Casablanca.
Raja Casablanca took the lead in the first half, when Mahmoud Benhalib scored the first goal in the 7 minutes then Oussama Soukhane goal in the 26 minutes to sealed Raja 2-0 victory and 4-0 on aggregate after similar result in the first leg.
Despite Oilers elimination from the CAF Totalenergies Champions League, the Oil Boys still have an opportunity to make the difference in the Confederation Cup.
With the elimination of the oil boys, they are to feature in the Confederations Cup where they and the other 15 teams eliminated from the champions league, will face the 16 teams in the Confederations cup, making a total of 32 teams in the play-off which is the fourth round.
The oil boys will be paired against one of the 16 Confederations cup teams on a two-leg basis with the winner joining 15 other qualifiers to be paired in four groups of four teams and the prize money for qualification to the fourth round is US$275K. If they do qualify from the fourth round to the third round, they will be rewarded an additional US$275K.
Another qualification, this time to the quarter-finals will see the Liberian club pocket US$350K, then US450K to the semi-finals and qualification to the grand final will see them pocket either US. 1.25 million as winners or 625K as runner-up.
Certainly, there is still plenty to play for after their two matches played in Morocco, a difficult hunting ground for visiting teams. The team arrives in Liberia on Monday October 24 and All eyes will be on the CAF draw on October 26 in Cairo for the Confederations Cup play-off.
