DISTRICT ONE – In a major step toward addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges in Bong County Electoral District One, Representative Prince Koinah has commenced the reconstruction of the critical Newtown–Dolo Town bridge, replacing its deteriorating wooden structure with a modernized concrete facility.
The project, which is already underway, represents another milestone in the lawmaker’s broader agenda to upgrade aging infrastructure across the district.
Residents have widely welcomed the initiative, describing it as a turning point in enhancing safety, durability, and economic opportunities in the region. The bridge, once completed, will significantly improve connectivity along the Newtown–Dolo Town corridor and extend access toward David Dean’s Town, easing the movement of goods and people.

Since assuming office in January 2024, the lawmaker has embarked on an ambitious campaign to replace wooden bridges with concrete structures, with this latest effort expected to bring the total number of upgraded bridges to approximately eight.
Community members, including local leaders, have praised the initiative as a bold and unprecedented move in the district’s history. In a brief conversation, Dolo Town Chief Elder William Drobia emphasized that concrete bridges typically last decades longer, require minimal maintenance, and can withstand heavier traffic, making them essential for sustainable development and economic growth.
Speaking on his motivation for prioritizing bridge construction, Rep. Koinah explained that his decision was driven by years of witnessing the hardships faced by residents due to poor infrastructure. He noted that many communities in District One have remained isolated during the rainy season, with unsafe wooden bridges often collapsing or becoming impassable.
According to him, the project is not merely about replacing structures but about restoring dignity and ensuring equal access to opportunities for all citizens.
He stressed that improving infrastructure is fundamental to unlocking the district’s agricultural and commercial potential, as farmers and traders depend heavily on reliable transportation routes to sustain their livelihoods.
The lawmaker further elaborated that his vision is rooted in long-term impact rather than short-term fixes, emphasizing that concrete bridges symbolize resilience and progress.
He pointed out that the recurring cost of repairing wooden bridges placed a financial burden on communities and local authorities, making modernization a more sustainable solution. Rep. Koinah added that by investing in durable infrastructure, his administration is laying the foundation for future generations, ensuring that development efforts remain intact for decades.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing similar projects across the district until all vulnerable crossings are replaced with modern, reliable structures.
“This bridge is not just a construction project; it is a lifeline for our people who have struggled for decades to move freely and safely,” Rep. Koinah declared. “For too long, our citizens have endured dangerous crossings, economic setbacks, and isolation, and I believe it is my responsibility to change that narrative through tangible development.”
In another statement, he emphasized, “Development must be felt by the people in their daily lives. When a farmer can transport produce without fear, when a child can cross safely to attend school, and when commerce flows without disruption, then we can truly say progress is being made in District One.”
For years, the condition of the Newtown–Dolo Town bridge has been a source of embarrassment and frustration for residents. The aging wooden structure, weakened by time and weather, posed serious risks to commuters and often became nearly unusable during heavy rains.
Vehicles frequently stalled, and pedestrians were forced to navigate the fragile planks with extreme caution, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
The deplorable state of the bridge not only hindered transportation but also slowed economic activities, as traders struggled to move goods efficiently.

Local leaders have openly expressed their appreciation for Rep. Koinah’s efforts, describing his leadership as transformative and people-centered.
Elder William Drobia remarked, “That bridge has been in a deplorable condition for decades; we appreciate our son Rep. Koinah for truly coming to our cry. What he is doing today will be remembered for generations.” He added, “This initiative sets a precedent in District One. For the first time, we are seeing a leader who is not just promising development but delivering durable solutions that will stand the test of time.” Drobia further stated,
“We are committed to supporting continuity because the pace of transformation we are witnessing is unprecedented in our district’s history.”
Another community leader, Madam Sarah Kollie, praised the lawmaker, stating, “Rep. Koinah has brought hope back to our communities. This bridge project shows that our concerns are being heard and addressed with seriousness.” She continued, “We have suffered for many years, but today we can confidently say that change is happening, and it is visible.” Kollie concluded, “This kind of leadership deserves recognition because it directly improves the lives of ordinary citizens.”
Similarly, youth leader Joseph Gbegbe commended the project, saying, “The construction of this bridge is a clear sign that development is reaching every corner of our district.” He added, “Young people like us now see opportunities opening up, especially in trade and transportation.”
Gbegbe further emphasized, “We stand firmly behind Rep. Koinah because he is demonstrating what true leadership looks like through action and commitment.”
