Africa-Press – Liberia. Lofa County district # 3 Representative, Siafa Momo Kpoto, has written to the House of Representatives, reminding that body of his bill to standardize the salaries and benefits of lecturers in rural Liberia.
According to Rep. Kpoto, he writes as a proud representative of Lofa County District #3 and a passionate advocate for the nation’s development.
“I am compelled to address the pressing issue that has led our beloved lecturers in rural public universities and colleges to embark on a Go-Slow, leaving our students to suffer the consequences, if nothing is done about this”, he warned.
He said that, as they are aware, the disparity in salaries and benefits between lecturers in urban and rural areas has been a longstanding challenge, and it has not only affected the morale of lecturers in such areas but also impacted the quality of education in rural institutions.
“It is disheartening to see our students in rural areas being deprived of quality education due to circumstances beyond their control”, he laments.
Representative Kpoto added that, as a Legislator, he has always been committed to promoting the welfare of his people, particularly those in rural areas, and that is why he introduced a bill to standardize the salaries and benefits of lecturers at rural public universities and colleges.
He noted that this bill aims to bridge the remuneration gap between urban and rural lecturers, attract and retain qualified educators in rural areas, and ultimately improve the quality of education there.
Kpoto is urging his colleagues to consider the plight of students and lecturers in rural areas to pass this bill and ensure that lecturers are well compensated and motivated to deliver quality education to thousands of students in rural communities, as this will not only benefit students but also contribute to the nation’s development.
“I believe that education is the bedrock of our nation’s progress, and it is our responsibility as legislators to ensure that our citizens have access to quality education. I look forward to your prompt consideration of this matter”, the Lofa District#3 Lawmaker concludes in his letter.
